Gators' Win at No. 7 Texas Is Their Highest-Ranked Road Win Since 2009
Florida's 27-24 win in Austin is its highest-ranked road win since No. 4 LSU in 2009, per Scott Carter and Novig, and its second top-10 win of the season.

Florida's 27-24 win at No. 7 Texas on Saturday wasn't just the best moment of Jon Sumrall's first season. By the measures reporters and outlets cited after the final, it's one of the biggest road wins the program has had in more than a decade.
Scott Carter, senior writer for Florida Gators athletics, called it Florida's highest-ranked road win since the Gators won at No. 4 LSU in 2009. Prediction market Novig noted the same, calling it Florida's highest-ranked true road win since that LSU game, and OnlyGators.com added that it's UF's first road win over a top-10 team since 2012 and its first road win over any ranked team since 2020.
Two top-10 wins in one season
It's also Florida's second top-10 win of the year. The Gators beat No. 4 Ole Miss 52-28 at home on Sept. 26, per the official schedule on floridagators.com and ESPN. Per Novig, it's the first time since 2012 that Florida has beaten two top-10 teams in the same season.
How they got there
Florida did it with backup quarterback Tramell Jones Jr. making his first career start, and after trailing 17-3 in the second quarter. ESPN noted the Gators answered with 24 straight points, handing Texas its second straight loss. OnlyGators.com pointed out Florida started 0 of 7 on third down and converted 8 of its last 12. ESPN's game data has Florida 8 of 19 on third down overall.
The full game story is here. Florida has an open week before Georgia on Oct. 31.
