After Florida came back to beat No. 7 Texas 27-24 in Austin on Saturday, Longhorns coach Steve Sarkisian was asked whether he thought about replacing quarterback Arch Manning during the game.
"We're not playing good offensive football right now, so everything is going to be evaluated," Sarkisian said, per Justin Wells of Inside Texas (On3). The Next Round's caption on its video of the answer words it slightly differently: "We're not playing great offensive football right now, so everything is gonna be evaluated."
Tyler Horka reported that Sarkisian was asked about replacing Manning a couple of times and said it would be a "long night" of evaluating the state of the Texas offense.
'Nobody was perfect on offense'
Sarkisian didn't put the loss on Manning alone. "Was Arch perfect? No. But nobody was perfect on offense today. Could he have been better? No doubt about it. But there's some other issues that need to be addressed," he said, per Inside Texas.
Asked about the offense's problems beyond Manning, he said: "Details and route running. Pass protection, picking up blitzes. Not being able to run the ball for two yards in short yardage." On the second half, Sarkisian said, "I don't know what we did well in the second half, quite honestly," per Evan Vieth, as compiled by Inside Texas.
Florida's defense sacked Manning five times, and Myles Graham's strip-sack, recovered by Kanye Clark with 1:58 left, sealed it after the Gators scored 24 straight points. It was Texas' second straight loss.
Florida (5-2, 3-2 SEC) has a bye next week before facing Georgia on Oct. 31 in Atlanta.
