Florida coach Jon Sumrall said quarterback Aaron Philo's injury is a "couple week" deal after the Gators' 27-24 win at No. 7 Texas on Saturday. Florida's open week comes at a good time.

Philo: 'We'll see'

Philo was held out with a shoulder injury and was available only as Florida's emergency third quarterback. Sophomore Tramell Jones Jr. made his first career start and won it. After the game, per Edgar Thompson of the Orlando Sentinel, Sumrall said Philo's injury was a "couple week" deal, adding: "We'll see."

Florida doesn't play next Saturday. Its next game is against Georgia on Oct. 31 in Atlanta, per the official schedule on floridagators.com. Sumrall didn't say who will start that game, and that question is still open.

Vernell Brown III

Receiver Vernell Brown III was dressed but didn't start. Sumrall said Brown has been "trying like crazy to give it a go," per Thompson, but he didn't feel Brown looked "right" during warm-ups. Looking ahead, Sumrall said: "Feel really good about where he is going into a bye week."

'A team win'

Sumrall also credited the whole roster, not just his quarterback. Per Thompson, he said: "Our defense played a helluva lot better. Our defense played a helluva lot better. I'm not taking anything away from Tramell, but today was a team win, not a quarterback win."

Florida's defense sacked Texas quarterback Arch Manning five times, per ESPN's game data, and forced the late fumble that sealed the win. Jones finished 22 of 35 for 155 yards and two touchdowns with no interceptions.
