# Sumrall on Tramell Jones Jr.: 'Hey This Is Going to Be Your Game'

Jon Sumrall told Tramell Jones Jr. the day before the game that Saturday would be his start. Jones then led Florida to a 27-24 win at No. 7 Texas in his first career start. (As of 6:00 PM ET.)

Graham Hall of 247Sports [posted](https://x.com/GrahamHall/status/2111568924068524083?ref=gatorstandard.com) Sumrall's postgame answer on how Jones put himself in position to succeed. "I grabbed him yesterday morning and I said 'Hey this is going to be your game.' He already knew that," Sumrall said, per Hall's transcript.

### 'Kept battling'

Jones went 22 of 35 for 155 yards and two touchdowns to Lacota Dippre, with no interceptions, and ran for 41 yards, per ESPN's game data. Sumrall said Jones missed throws but didn't let them get to him. "He kept battling and kept fighting, and that's when good things happen," Sumrall said, per Hall.

### The extra work

Sumrall traced it back to Jones' exit meeting after spring practice, when Sumrall told him to put in more work on his own. "And in the summer, you know, what he did? He did a little bit more on his own and started to do extra," Sumrall said, per Hall. "And so very proud of him, grateful for his approach and happy for his success today."

Sumrall also summed up the day, per [GatorCountry](https://x.com/GatorCountry/status/2111573308239950222?ref=gatorstandard.com): "Our guys fought today. And we happened to win the game too, which is huge."

Florida (5-2, 3-2 SEC) has an open week before facing Georgia on Oct. 31 in Atlanta.
